A programmer or coder should be able to don multiple hats in the deployment of a project. From coding to designing to client management on-site, it’s not easy to juggle the different roles. When I am in the look out for a new programmer, I focus primarily on certain character traits than technical proficiency. Technical skills can be taught in a day or two but not personal character traits. I am not a good judge of character otherwise all my hires would be working with me for more than a couple of years. Anyway, these are a few traits that I particularly look for in a candidate.
